Lacy B. Wheeler

Funeral services for Lacy B. Wheeler, 90, of Gainesville, will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, June 10, 2012 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Hubert Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Geo J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Wheeler passed away Thursday, June 07, 2012 in Gainesville.

Lacy was born December 5, 1921 in Gainesville to E. Ancil and Lela Ball Wheeler. He grew up in the Downard-Fairplains community. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1939 and from Texas A&M University in 1943. He served as an Infantry Officer in Europe during World War II, retiring from military service with the rank of Colonel. He married Frances Nell Richter on September 25, 1946 in Minneapolis, MN. He was appointed to the position of rural mail carrier of route one, Gainesville where he served for thirty years. He was also engaged in real estate, farming and ranching. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for 62 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Frances, sons L. Bryan and Jeff Wheeler, one brother and 2 sisters.

He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Lynne and Mike Compton of Gainesville; daughter Jeri Nell Mullins of Plano; 7 grandchildren; 2 nieces and 1 nephew.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Cody Compton, Matt Compton, and Zach Mullins; nephew Craig Guckert; Don Orsburn, Robert Baker, Hollis Parsons, and Johnny Leftwich. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of the First Baptist Church.
