Dorothy Marie Strayhorn

Funeral Services for Dorothy Marie Strayhorn, 85, of Valley View will be Monday, November 28, 2011 at 10 a.m. at First Pentecostal Church in Gainesville with Gary Carter and Floyd G. Flowers, Jr. officiating under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Burns Cemetery in Trenton. Mrs. Strayhorn died Tuesday, November 22, 2011.



Dorothy “Marie” Curtis was born September 27, 1926 in Pike, TX to George Washington and Alta Mae Roper Curtis. On October 28, 1944 at the age of eighteen, Marie married her true love August “Junior” Strayhorn in Bonham. Junior and Marie were married sixty-two wonderful years and built a home in Valley View. To this happy union seven children were born.



She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Susann and David Jamison; daughter Kathy McCullough; daughter and son-in-law Georgie and Roy Seale; daughter and son-in-law Virgie and Jeff Ransberger; daughter Mary Frances Vanderford; son and daughter-in-law Kenny and Sheila Strayhorn; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.



She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son Paul Ray Strayhorn; and son-in-law Danny McCullough.
