O. E. Bentley

Funeral services for O. E. Bentley, 90, of Era, are set for 2:00 PM December 12, 2012 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Black officiating. Burial will follow in the Era Cemetery under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A visitation will be held at 1:00 PM preceding the funeral, at the funeral home.

Orville Elton Bentley was born on September 19, 1922 on a farm near Era to Egbert and Grace Elizabeth Flock Bentley, and was raised by his grandparents Henry and Margaret Bentley. He passed away on December 10, 2012 at his residence in Era.

He attended school in Era and as a youth, played shortstop for the for the VFW baseball team. After serving in the Army as a SSgt in England, France, Belgium, and Germany during World War II, O. E. Bentley married Mildred Myers on November 26, 1945 in Gainesville upon his return. He was a farmer his entire life. He also was a heavy equipment operator for the county and drove a truck for Gainesville Fuel for 35 years. He enjoyed playing many games of dominoes with the Era Domino Club and his family.

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Rex and Marla Bentley of Era; son and daughter-in-law Keith and Debra Bentley of Era; grandchildren Jeremiah Bentley and his wife Brandy of Austin, Brandy Parker and her husband Lance of Weatherford, Hope Tuell and her husband Todd of Aledo, Monica Bentley and Larry Wofford of Gainesville, Jessica Moore of Indianapolis, IN, and Steffan Bentley of Austin. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Jackson Bentley, Luke Bentley, Madyson Parker, Briggs Parker, Grayson Tuell, Taylor Tuell, and Eddy Wofford.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Bentley in September of 2012, and his sisters Ruby and Jewell.

Pallbearers will be Luke Myers, Mike Graves, Greg Selby, Michael Selby, Eugene Bentley, Edwin Knight, and Al Smith. Honorary pallbearer will be Jerry Hudspeth.
