Mass of Christian burial for Joseph Lawrence (Joe L.) Schmidlkofer, 80, of Lindsay, is set for January 5, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lindsay with the Rev. Raymond McDaniel officiating. Burial to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lindsay. Arrangements are under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. The rosary will be held Friday evening at 7:30 PM at Geo. J. Carroll and Son.

Joseph passed away peacefully January 2, 2013 in Sherman, Texas.
Joseph was born in Lindsay on July 24, 1932 to John Clement and Catherine Angerer Schmidlkofer.
Joseph attended Lindsay School.
He enlisted in the Marine Corps in March 1951 and served 3 years in the 3rd Marine Division. He spent 13 months in combat in Korea. He received 2 Purple Hearts, a Presidental Unit Citation, and The Korean Service Medal. He reached the rank of Sergeant.

Joseph married Viola Mae Flusche on July 13, 1957 in Decatur, Texas.
Joseph retired from National Supply division of Armco Steel Inc after 33 years. After retirement from Armco he continued his farming and construction business.

Joseph always loved children and enjoyed teaching them how to work and play.

Joseph was blessed with 7 children, 12 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Viola of Lindsay, his children and their spouses, Judy and David Krahl of Lindsay, Stephen Schmidlkofer of Valley View, Janet and Jackie Moss of Sadler, Victor Schmidlkofer of Perry, Oklahoma and Joan and David Deckard of Oklahoma, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by two brothers, Herbert Schmidlkofer of Lindsay and Leroy Schmidlkofer of Gainesville and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, and by 2 of his daughters Joyce Schmidlkofer Knabe and Julia Schmidlkofer. Also, 1 grandson Lucas Krahl.

He is also preceded in death by brothers Frankie and George Schmidlkofer, sisters Marie Fuhrmann and Rosalie Reiter.
