Barbara Jean Devers

A Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara Jean Devers, 35, of Valley View, is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Victor Cruz officiating. Interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited, with visitation to follow, at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Barbara was born January 31, 1978 in Muenster to Billy and Margie Devers. She passed away August 29, 2013.

Barbara graduated from Valley View High School in 1996, where she was active in FFA, basketball, track and cross country. She graduated from Grayson County College in Sherman, in 2001 with an associate’s degree in Laboratory Technology. In 2004 she graduated with honors from Texas State University in San Marcos, with a bachelor’s degree in Radiation Therapy. She worked in Austin at Austin Cancer Center as a Radiation Therapist.

She was the loving mother of Brooke Devers. Together they loved to spend time hiking, along with their dogs, Tito and Dane, taking trips to the beach, to Schlitterbahn and Disney World, visiting museums and other points of interest in the Austin area and spending time with friends.


Barbi was a warm and genuine person who was loved and treasured by all who knew her. She will be missed beyond measure by all those whose lives she touched.

Survivors include: daughter, Brooke Hailey Devers of Valley View; parents, Billy and Margie Devers of Valley View; brothers: Jason Devers of Sherman and Matthew Devers of Sanger; sister, Diana Devers of Corvallis, OR; and grandmother, Ethel Mae Hesse of Muenster.

Barbi is also survived by: uncles and aunts: Joan and Charlie Golaz of Paradise, Bert and Christy Hesse of Muenster, Tina Cox of Muenster, Mark and Melanie Hesse of Muenster, Vicky and Nathan Newton of Valley View, and Lee and Becky Devers of Valley View; niece, Mikayla Hesse of Muenster; and numerous cousins.

Preceding Barbi in death were: maternal grandfather, Leo Hesse; paternal grandfather, Joe Devers; paternal grandmother, Adeline Devers; uncle, Danny Devers; maternal great-grandparents: Joe and Gertrude Bayer and Joe and Christina Hesse; and paternal great-grandparents: Albert and Anna Knabe and Frank and Matilda Devers.
