Bill Shannon

Graveside services for Bill Shannon, 80, of Gainesville, are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2013 at New Resthaven Cemetery with Charles Dill officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 19 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Shannon passed away on September 17, 2013 in Corinth, TX after a lengthy illness. He was born to John and Ella Mae Shannon on November 4, 1932.

Bill graduated from Gainesville High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served honorably from January 1953 to January 1955.

Bill was a talented musician and played the fiddle for 68 years with various bands in North Texas, the most recent being Doug Martin and the Rustlers.

Bill was also a member of Harvey Street Baptist Church in Gainesville.

Mr. Shannon is survived by: wife, Phyllis Shannon of Gainesville; son, James Shannon and wife, Nita of Pilot Point; stepson, Gregory Murrill of Denton; stepson, Eric Murrill and wife, Rebecca of Denton; and stepdaughter Pamela LaMore of Iowa. Bill is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was loved by many friends and family. He will be sorely missed.
