Robert (Bob) J. Heying

Funeral services for Robert J. Heying, 92, of Valley View, are set for 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2013 at the Valley View United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cheryl Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in the Tyson Cemetery under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. No visitation is scheduled.

Robert (Bob) was born on February 7, 1921 in Glasgow, MO. to Julius Franz and Grace Ella (Monroe) Heying. He passed away on October 2, 2013 at his residence.

Bob attended school in Fayette, MO. He attended 1 year at UCLA, 1 year University of Missouri, and Graduate school at Central Methodist University. He earned his Bachelors Degree in History, with a minor in Geology. Bob served in the US Navy during WWII from May 1942- December 1945 aboard the USS Cincinnati, USS Varian, and the USS Duncan, in the fourth and seventh fleets, in the Atlantic, North Africa, Sicily, Eniwetok, Okinawa, Yellow and East China seas. He retired in June of 1973 from the Carlsbad Cavern's National Park as a District Ranger, after 29 years of service.

He is survived by daughter Elizabeth Heying Mosier and her husband Richard of Mountain Springs. son Robert Christopher Heying and his wife Cindy of Chatham, VA., one granddaughter, and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Doris Pitzinger Heying in February 2008., his parents, a brother, and a sister.
