Johnny Morris, 80, of Henderson, NV passed away April 27, 2014 due to injuries received in a car accident late last year.
He was born on July 13, 1933 in Marysville, Texas to Ruby (Smith) Morris and R.D. Morris.
Johnny grew up in Muenster, Texas. At the age of 16, Johnny began working as a roughneck in the Texas oil fields. He was drafted in 1951 and served the Army in Wiesbaden, Germany during the Korean War. After the war, he returned to the oil field. In 1959 while working in Montana, Johnny met the love of his life. Gayle Annette Atkinson and Johnny were married on December 21, 1959 in Circle, Montana.
Johnny’s work in the oil field as a roughneck, a superintendent and a consultant took his family to many states and countries. The family lived in Texas, Montana, South Dakota, Wyoming, Kansas, Venezuela, Colombia, Oregon, Louisiana, Michigan, Scotland, Spain, Malta, Oklahoma, Arizona and finally Nevada. Johnny also worked in Algeria, Iran, Malaysia, New Zealand and the Gulf of Mexico.
Johnny loved his work in the oil field but loved his family even more. He is survived by Gayle, his wife of 54 years. His five children, Lisa Morris Mitchell of Oklahoma City, OK, Lana Morris of Oklahoma City, OK, Laura Morris of Henderson, NV, John Richard Morris of Henderson, NV, and Danee Morris Trant and husband, Bryan Trant of Odessa, TX. Johnny loved and adored each of his five grandkids. Jeff Nessman of Oklahoma City, OK, Aubrey Mitchell of Oklahoma City, OK, Jaxon Mitchell of Oklahoma City, OK, Madaline Trant of Odessa, TX, and Austin Trant of Odessa, TX. He also dearly loved his many nieces and nephews.
Johnny is also survived by his sister Polly (Morris) Haverkamp of Gainesville, TX, and his brother Harold Morris of Washington, OK. Preceding him in death were sisters Maxine Morris, Sedalia “Dee” (Morris) McElreath, Patsy (Morris) Grober and infant twin brothers James M. Morris and Ambrose A. Morris.
A Memorial Service for Johnny Morris is set for Friday, May 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home located at 602 Lindsay St, Gainesville, TX 76240, Phone: 940-665-3455. Pastor Bryan Trant (son-in-law) officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be at much later date in Ekalaka, MT.
