Vickie Lynn Hocker, nee Tiller, died August 22, 2014, in New Braunfels, Texas. She was born in Gainesville, Texas, May 26, 1949, to Hoyt and Ocie Tiller, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Joseph Hocker of New Braunfels. She is also survived by her brothers, Danny Tiller and wife Sandy of Schertz, and David Tiller and wife LaDonna of Gainesville, and brother-in-law Gene Reiter of Gainesville. She was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Reiter.

Vickie was a graduate of Gainesville High School and North Texas State University with BA and MLS degrees. She was reference librarian at the Rosenberg Library in Galveston before moving to New Braunfels, where she was a school librarian before being named Director of the New Braunfels Public Library in 1982. In that capacity, she was instrumental in the design and construction of the present-day library.

In her capacity as librarian, Vickie emphasized childhood literacy and encouraged young people to make the library a part of their education. Her many nieces and nephews were inspired by her dedication, her intelligence, and her humor. Their special memories of her are tied to her love of books and reading.

Visitation in New Braunfels will be at the Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home on Monday August 25th from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visitation in Gainesville will be at the Carroll Funeral Home on Wednesday August 27th from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday August 28th at 10 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Gainesville, Texas.

Memorials in Vickie's name can be made to the New Braunfels Friends of the Library, or to a charity of choice.
