Johnnye L. Lewter

Funeral services for Johnnye Lewter, 94, will be held at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home at 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 17, 2014 with Rev. Bill Black officiating. A visitation will be held at 9:00 AM, the hour prior to the funeral service.

Johnnye Louise Trew was born on November 18, 1919 to John and Jewel Trew in Myra, Texas. She died Sunday, September 14, 2014.

She attended school in Myra where she finished the 11th grade. She finished the 12th grade in Gainesville. She attended Gainesville Jr. College where she studied music.

On March 14, 1940, she married Joe Lewter in Myra. They lived in the Hood community where they farmed and operated a dairy. They moved to her home-place in 1968 where they built a new house and where she still resided. She took great pride in her home and her yard where she spent countless hours working.

She was active in the Hood Methodist Church and later at the Era Methodist Church having served as pianist at both churches for many years. She was also a member of the Hood Community Club for many years.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Lanny and Lanita Lewter of Era and Lindy and Elaine Lewter of Valley View; sister Mary Cummings of Wichita Falls; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; 1 niece; 1 nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Joe.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law: Devin Lewter, Jeffrey Lewter, J.R. Lewter, Scott Hughes, T.C. Goin, and Steven Wood.
