Emma “Ruth” Milligan was a loving wife, friend, and aunt to friends and family. She invested laughter and time in the lives of many. She passed from this life at the age of 91 into eternity with her loving Savior, Jesus Christ on September 29, 2014.
Ruth was born in Greenwood, Texas on May 15, 1923. She graduated from Slidell High School and married her sweetheart, Raymond Marshall Milligan, in Fort Worth on November 10, 1941. After Raymond’s tour of duty in the United States Army, they followed their love of horses, training and teaching at area stables including:
Rendezvous, Little Brook, Glad Acres, Diamond R, and Lake Place. Ruth also sold insurance for Kentucky National Insurance.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Raymond, her parents, David and Clara Griffith, brother Peyton Griffith, and sisters Vida Mae Sellers and Lucile Clark. She is survived by her many nieces and nephews and their families and close friends.
Her infectious love for life, quick wit and sense of humor made her a favorite at gatherings of friends and families. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Famers Branch. Her family would like to thank Reverend Sam Underwood and the congregation for loving her well and giving her a wonderful community to share life with. Appreciation also goes to Sandy Lake Rehabilitation and Care Center, River Oaks Assisted Living and Hospice Plus for the compassionate care in her final year. Services will be held at First Baptist Church at Farmers Branch, (address referenced above) on Thursday, October 2 at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Sam Underwood officiating, under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral home in Gainesville. Burial will follow in the Slidell Cemetery in Slidell, Texas.
