Flora Delores Smith

Graveside service for Flora Delores Mitchell Smith 93, of Georgetown, Tx are set for Monday October 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville, Tx with her great - nephew Jay Gibson , pastor of Heritage Oaks Church , Plano Tx officiating under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral Home. Flora passed away on September 19, 2014 in George town, Tx.

Flora was born on August 25, 1921 in Gainesville , Tx to Walter and Icsiphene Mitchell, she was the youngest of six children. Flora , better known as Flo Mae all of her younger years, was married to Frank C. Smith Jr on April 3, 1945 in Gainesville, Tx and to this union was born Peggy Elaine Miller Smith. They were married 47 years before his passing in 1992. Together they were active in many Gainesville community activities.She was a member of First Baptist Church in Georgetown, Tx and was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Over the years she lived in Georgetown, she formed numerous close friendships that was so important to her, A special thanks to Allie and Sue, her close neighbors at Mariposa Apartments who composed the front porch gang, and her dear friends at Scott and White Pharmacy.

Flora was a woman of many talents and began her adult work as a nurse for Dr. Herbert Locke and then in later years for Dr. William F. Powell. after moving to Garland, Texas in 1966, she began a new career with Preston State Bank. In 1995 she moved to Georgetown, Tx to be near Peggy and her family, where she worked for Sun City Texas and Scott and White Pharmacy. she continued to be independent, determined lady who spent time each morning with her devotional including daily Bible readings and gospel music. Although her body began to falter, her mind was as keen as ever and she was still working crosswords until the end of her life.

Flora is survived by her daughter and husband, Mike and Peggy Miller, her cherished grandsons, John " Chris " , James " Brad " and Jacob " Andy " and wife Erica Miller, and her precious great- grandsons, Nick, Jake, Kyle, Foster and Reese Miller, also her devoted nieces and nephews, Kay,Mara, June Gibson, Lynda Evans, Delores Hendrix ( her namesake and born on her birthday ), Terri Bower, Gary Mitchell and JImmy Mitchell. Numerous great nieces and nephews also survive.

Flora was preceded in death by her Husband Frank C. Smith, her parents, brothers and sisters Melvin Mitchell, Freeman Mitchell, J. D. Mitchell Novella Bewley, Velma Prestige and nieces Nita Faye Bewley Stigler. You may sign the on line registry at geojcarroll.com
