Frances Marie Simmel Schroeder

Funeral mass will be Saturday, March 21, at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Gary Picou officiating; burial to follow at New Rest Haven cemetery. Family visitation scheduled for Friday, March 20, at George J. Carroll and Son funeral home from 6:00 – 7:00 pm, followed by Liturgy of the Word and Rosary at 7:00 pm.

Frances Marie Simmel was born January 7, 1924 to Andrew and Evie Sparks Simmel in Tioga, TX, and she went home again on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 after a lengthy illness.

She worked as a cook at a hospital in Sherman up until her marriage and then as Badge #97 for Weber Aircraft beginning when the facility opened in Gainesville in 1968 up until her retirement in 1984.

Frances married Lee Schroeder on August 26, 1947 in Pilot Point, TX, at St. Thomas Catholic Church and they were married for 60 years until his death on September 24, 2007. They were members of St. Mary’s Catholic church, where Frances was an active member of the Altar Society, Parent Teacher Association and the Quilting Club. A genteel southern lady, she loved horse racing, penny slot machines and playing 42 with family and friends.

She is survived by the 5 Schroeder Girls and their husbands – Peggy and Gary Martin, Tricia and Steve Dodson, Donna and Ken Odell all of Gainesville, Sandy and Mark Erwin of Pflugerville and Lorie and Doug Morrison, also of Gainesville, grandchildren Scott and Nino Martin, Dennis and Heather Martin, Eric and Brandie Martin, Danny Martin, Kendyl and Joe Arensman, Heather and Kyle Endres, Wes Morrison, Ranee Morrison and Derek Endres, Rachel Frances Erwin and Natalie Erwin, along with 8 great grandchildren. We will welcome the 9th and 10th great grandchildren later this year. Two sisters, Mary Neu of Lindsay and Margaret Schindler of Pilot Point and brother Bobby Simmel of Lindsay, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Andrew, Albert and Wilbert Simmel. Pallbearers will be Scott Martin, Dennis Martin, Eric Martin, Wes Morrison, Joe Arensman and Kyle Endres.

She was kind to all, loved by many and will be missed by everyone who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church renovation fund or Cooke County Home Hospice
