Jose Charles Mendez

Funeral services for Jose Mendez, 92, of Gainesville, will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, May 8, 2016 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. A visitation will be held both Friday and Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.



Surrounded by his loving family, Jose slipped peacefully from this earth to be with our Heavenly Father on May 5, 2016, after a courageously fought, lengthy illness.



Jose Charles Mendez was born on November 17, 1923 in Hope, Texas to Felipa Charles and Diego Mendez. He married Rosa Garcia on February 16, 1964 and together they made their life in Gainesville.



Jose devoted his entire life to his family, instilling in them the importance of strength in family and Faith in God. He treasured time spent with his wife and children, and most of all, spoiling his grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Grandpa”.



A kind and giving person, Jose never met a stranger in his lifetime, and countless were the lives he touched. He had a big heart, and always reached out to help those in need with a quiet, selfless, and generous manner. His strong, unwavering, and devoted presence will be truly missed.

Jose is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rosa Mendez; daughters and sons-in-law Maria and John Yeargan, Lucia and Noe Robledo, Rosa and Luis Martinez, Josie and Royce Wheeler, Virginia Garcia, Consuelo Garcia and Nora Mendez; Sons Paul Mendez, Ralph Mendez, Martin Mendez, Jose Mendez, Jr. and wife Mary, Tony Mendez and wife Gloria; 40 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews, along with many extended family members.



He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jesus and Guadalupe Mendez; sisters Eva, Damasia, Herminia; daughter-in-law Juanita Mendez.
