A Mass of Christian Burial for James Louis Bayer, 85, of Gainesville, is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gainesville with Fr. Gary Picou officiating. James passed away May 20th in Denton.

James was born on October 27, 1930 in Muenster to Frank and Romana Walter Bayer. He was raised in Muenster and attended Sacred Heart School and Subiaco Academy in Arkansas. He married Antoinette Anna Neu on January 7, 1956 at St. Peter’s in Lindsay. Mr. Bayer was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and had a very deep faith in his Maker. He took great joy in playing dominoes. Anyone who came to visit had to sit down and play a game before they left. He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed, but is rejoicing with his two daughters, Gladys and Charlotte.

James was a veteran of the 1st Battalion 3rd Marine Division FMF during Korean War. He was inducted into the Marines in February 1952 and was in San Diego, CA for boot camp. He served in Hawaii, Japan, and was on his way to Korea when the Peace Treaty was signed. He was discharged in February 1954.

In 1955, James purchased a farm in the Spring Creek Community and continued to farm that land and raise cattle until he was no longer able, due to his illness. He was always happy to be on a tractor and farming the land or driving around checking his cattle. He was a diligent worker of the land and had faith that God would take care of his needs as a farmer. James also worked at National Supply as a welder for 33 years and once he retired from there, his farm consumed his life.

James is survived by Ann Bayer, his wife of 60 years; son, Jim Bayer of Valley View; son and daughter-in-law, Chris & Janet Bayer of Valley View; and daughter, Sandra Richeson of Gainesville; grandchildren: Jarad & Rachel Bayer of The Colony, Christin & Cpt.
