A Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn Gieb Schafer, 98, longtime resident of Gainesville, most recently of Humble, is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. John Pacheco officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with visitation to follow.
Mrs. Schafer passed away January 1, 2017 in Humble.
Evelyn was born August 13, 1918 in Lindsay to Joe and Lena (Friedman) Gieb. She was a beautician and owner/operator of Evelyn’s Beauty Shop for over 35 years. Mrs. Schafer was a wonderful mother and a good friend. She will be missed by many.
Survivors include: daughter Patti Lou Mitchell and husband Fred of Humble; three grandchildren: Lisa Engels and husband Duffy, Joseph Mitchell and wife Susan, and Kelly Casto and husband Bob; four great-grandchildren: Mitchell and Christopher Casto and Emily and Rachel Mitchell; one great-great-grandchild: Payton Casto; sister Annabell Gaughan; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Schafer was preceded in death by her husband, William Jack Schafer; sisters: Virginia Teague, Sister Helen Mary, SSND, and Lucille Evans; and brothers: Lawrence Gieb and Joe Gieb.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s School.
