Mrs. Bauer passed away October 7, 2017 in Gainesville.

Ann Geray Bauer was born December 24, 1926 in Gainesville to Frank Joseph and Margaret (Phillips) Geray. She graduated as valedictorian of St. Mary's High School in 1943 and then entered St. Paul's School of Nursing in Dallas. She had joined the Air Force and was being trained as a nurse but the war ended and she never served in the armed forces. One of her first trips out of Cooke County was to ride the bus to downtown Dallas and walk to the St. Paul's campus. She would always look for the flying red Mobil horse as a land mark of which way to walk. Some weekends she was allowed to go home for a visit and she would ride the bus which would drop her off at the Hwy 51 'Y' close to modern day NCTC. Then she would walk two to three miles home. On one of these occasions a young man in a car stopped to ask if she needed a ride. She knew he was Robert Bauer and they had their first date that same evening. They were married a little over a year later on July 21, 1948.

After the children were bigger, Ann worked as a registered nurse at the old Gainesville Sanitarium and later for Gainesville Memorial Hospital. In 1966 she became the school nurse for Gainesville ISD where she worked until her retirement in 1981.

Ann did not waste one minute of her retirement. She and Robert traveled often to many states and countries. She loved to play bridge, quilt, and work crossword puzzles. She learned to play the piano, play golf, carve in wood and paint. She was a gifted cook who could put a meal for ten on the table in 30 minutes. Her family will always remember the wonderful holiday celebrations at Grandma and Pawpaw's house.
