Margaret Clack

Margaret Clack, affectionately known as Boggy or Mimi to most, joined the angels of Heaven on Dec. 9, 2008. in Midland. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at Gainesville First United Methodist Church.

Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Margaret was born June 4, 1912 to Reverend Julius Wistor Slagle and Willie Whitten Winstead in Era, Texas. As one of seven children, she spent her childhood in various towns in the North Texas area where her father would be appointed by the Methodist Church.

One of her favorite stories was that she met her future husband as a child in Era, sharing the same baby buggy. On Aug. 21, 1935 she married James Weldon Clack and they enjoyed 59 years of marriage until his death, July 6, 1995.

Margaret was always an active member of First United Methodist Church in Gainesville since 1935, serving many offices, especially with the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Grand Matron. Prior to her retirement, she was office manager at Gainesville Memorial Hospital.

Always an entertainer, she loved to make people laugh and smile. She enjoyed playing character roles in her one woman performances and could often be caught pulling pranks on friends and loved ones. In the last few years she would often answer her own question of “why am I still here?” with the answer “ just to make people smile and laugh!”

After retirement, she and Weldon moved from Gainesville to Presbyterian Manor in Wichita Falls where they lived until she moved to Midland, Texas.

She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Carol and Gary Hall of Midland, Janet and Bob Tefertiller of Itasca, and Dianne and Mark Prothro of Wichita Falls; eight grandchildren, Cary and Becky Hall Billingsley, Kent and Carrie Hall Adams, Krissy Hall, Justin, Josh and Jolee Tefertiller, Phillip and Holly Prothro Philbin, and James Patrick Prothro; seven great grandchildren, Nathan and Taylor Billingsley Jackson and Hallie Adams, and Charlie, Luke, and Mark Philbin; many nieces and nephews and her extended family of almost everyone she met.

A visitation will be held at Geo. J. Carroll & Sons Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008.

The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice Midland, your local Hospice, or your favorite charity.
