Born in Cooke County on January 7, 1916, Mrs. Moss was the daughter of Samuel Ritchie and Mary Alice Fannin Porter. She was married to the late Cleo M. Moss. She died peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 10, 2009.
Survivors include her son and daughter in law Robert C. and Jo Moss of Corinth, and her daughter and son in law Marlene and Spencer Hays of Nashville, TN and New York, NY, five grandchildren, three step grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Her family wishes to thank her caregivers Cindy Hernandez and Donna Mosman.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her six brothers Charlie, Jim, Lon, Bob, George and Roy Porter and her five sisters Nora Wisdom, Thelma Beck, Maude Jones, Ruth Burkhart and Grace Bennett.
Mrs. Moss was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville for 34 years and was a Sunday School teacher for 12 years. She was a member of the American Study Club and was active in her community for many years.
Funeral services will be held at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 12, 2009 with Mrs. Moss’ nephew Rev. Sam Porter officiating. Grandsons will be pallbearers. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, October 11, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Gainesville or Home Hospice of Cooke County.
