A Mass of Christian Burial for Antoinette Anna “Ann” Neu Bayer, 90, of Gainesville, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gainesville with Fr. John Pacheco officiating and Deacon Gelasio Garcia. Internment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Muenster. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 26 at George J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with visitation to follow.
Ann passed away October 23 at her home.
Ann was born on September 24, 1935 north of Gainesville in Cooke County to Joe and Ida Flusche Neu. When she was about two years old, her family moved to a farm 2 ½ miles south of Lindsay. That farm was owned, at the time, by Ann's Grandpa and Grandma, Joseph and Elizabeth Reinhart Neu. Ann attended Lindsay Public School, graduating with a class of nine in 1953. After graduating from Lindsay High School, she worked as a machine operator at the Texas Dress Factory in Gainesville. In 1954, she attended and graduated from Sherman Beauty School. After passing the State Board, she was employed at Evelyn’s Beauty on Broadway Street in Gainesville. In 1967, she was employed as a bookkeeper at Stephenson Tire & Battery Company. In 1970, she began her 26 year career as Bookstore Manager at Cooke County Junior College. She retired on January 23, 1996 and was enjoying her retirement on the farm south of Gainesville.
On January 7, 1956, James Louis Bayer and Ann Neu were joined together in marriage at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lindsay. Their marriage lasted 60 years before James’s passing in May of 2016. They were blessed with five children. Gladys 1956-1963, Jimmy 1958-2024, Chris 1958 (Janet), Sandra 1960 and Charlotte 1961-1962.
Ann was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and had a very deep faith in her Maker. She took great joy in working on jigsaw puzzles and playing dominoes. She went once a week to the Senior Center in Valley View to play cards and visit with friends. She was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed, but is rejoicing with her husband James, her two daughters Gladys and Charlotte and her son Jim.
Ann is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Chris & Janet Bayer of Valley View; and daughter, Sandra Richeson of Gainesville; grandchildren: Jarad & Rachel Bayer of Valley View, Christin & Dustin Dieter of Myra, Emily & Logan Henderson of Midland, Nathan & Danielle Bayer of Valley View, Paul & Megan Richeson of Dallas, Mark Richeson of Denton, and David & Brittney Richeson of Denton; 15 great-grandchildren; brother Charles Neu of Lindsay; sister, Cecilia Hoenig of Lindsay; sister-in-law Marilyn Bayer of Roanoke; brother-in-law and wife, Regi & Patsy Bayer of Muenster and a number of nieces and nephews.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, James, daughters, Gladys and Charlotte; son, Jimmy; great-granddaughter, Callie Dieter; parents, Joe & Ida Neu; in-laws, Frank & Romana Bayer; brother Msgr. Hubert Neu; brother-in-law & sister, Wilfred & Ida Mae Bindel; sister-in-law, Mary Neu; brother-in-law, Ray Hoenig; brother-in-law, Randy Bayer.
Ann’s grandsons Jarad Bayer, Paul Richeson, David Richeson, and Nathan Bayer and grandsons-in-law Dustin Dieter and Logan Henderson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be her godchildren Phyllis Garcia, Carla Petrasek, Leslie Neu and Chad Bayer.
