Barbara Button Marshall passed away on September 26, 2025 in Gainesville, Texas. She born April 21, 1932 to Cecil and Virginia Moore Button in Dallas, TX.
Barbara graduated from North Dallas High School in 1948 and worked for SW Bell telephone company until her marriage to James R. Marshall in 1950. They had three daughters: Rebecca, Beverly and Beth. As a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, she was an ordained elder since 1964, taught Sunday School for 55 years serving every age group from beginners to adult classes. She also served as Moderator of Presbyterian Women of FPC several times. She was instrumental in starting the College Ministry. She attended NCTC when it was known as Cooke County College, then Texas Womans University., graduating cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Speech and Hearing Therapy. She also earned a Master's Degree in Mental Retardation and Psychology. She earned additional certifications in Learning Disabilities and Supervision. She worked for Gainesville Independent School District during which time she directed the Cooke County Special Education Cooperative serving all the schools in Cooke Co. She also worked for 14 years at Camp Sweeney. After her retirement in 1992 she consulted for Region XI Educational Service Center as a supervisor for teachers in training in eight school districts. She had also been a volunteer at Pecan Tree Rehabilitation Center as a Bingo caller.
For four years in the 1970s she was in charge of fund raising for the local American Cancer Society, during which time over $100,000 was collected. She formerly sponsored teens serving Denton State School where she was also a surrogate parent.
Professional organizations include Texas Speech and Hearing Association, Texas State Teachers' Association, and PTAs. She served in the Texoma Mental Health and Mental Retardation Board of Directors, serving two years as Chairperson.
Barbara (Baba to her grandsons) is survived by daughters; Rebecca and Beverly, grandsons; Marshall Freeman and Jeremy Wilkes. Great grandchildren; Emma, James and Nathan Freeman, daughter-in-law Liuba Freeman as well as several nephews and nieces.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband James, daughter Beth and grandson Phillip.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church and Concho Hearts Hospice.
