Bobby Ray Stansbury passed away on July 10, 2018. Bob was born on August 2, 1935 at home in Gainesville, Texas, to Jack and Loudella Stansbury. Born breach and with club feet, he spent much of his early childhood in Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, enduring several operations to straighten his feet.
Bob majored in chemistry at college and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was extremely proud of his education. He moved to Dallas after graduation and worked for the Dallas Health Department. In 1966 he began a 25 year career as a chemist for Texas Instruments in Richardson, Texas.
Bob loved to think and was a philosopher all of his adult life. He was a very practical person who highly respected the truth. Friends and co-workers nicknamed his “Dr. Stansbury”. His favorite pastimes were watching operas, listening to classical music and watching the stock market channels and political programs on TV.
He met Linda Kae Goforth, of McKinney, Texas, at Texas Instruments in April 1967. They married in October 1970 at Bob’s uncle and aunt’s home in Gainesville. They had two children, a son Justin, born in 1986 and a daughter Rachel, born in 1991. Bob and his family lived in Dallas until 2007 when they moved back to Bob’s hometown of Gainesville.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jay Lee. He is survived by his wife, son, daughter, mother-in-law Judy Goforth of Gainesville, a brother-in-law Jim Goforth and wife Fran of Sun City, CA, sisters-in-law Lisa Robbins of McKinney, Texas, Sandy Barnwell of Gainesville, and Barbara Tiller of Celina, Texas, along with several nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, his family is planning a private memorial service to be held at a later date.
