Carol Ann Herman

December 26, 1952 — February 26, 2026

Marietta, Oklahoma

Carol Ann Herman, age 73, a resident of Marietta, OK, slipped away from the arms of her husband and was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus on the morning of February 26, 2026.

Carol was born in Gainesville, TX on December 26, 1952 (truly a Christmas Carol) to Weldon Thurman and Doris Ann Langston Scivally. She grew up in Gainesville, graduated from GHS in 1971 and attended NCTC.

Carol was blessed with a beautiful voice and brought joy and peace to many through her singing ability. She was in several musicals, always a valued member of the choir in each church where she was a member, and blessed many hearts with special music in those churches.

Carol married James Herman in 1973 and was just 3 months shy of 53 years in that blessed union at the time of her passing. With James being employed in the oil and gas industry, they lived in several different cities. While living in Oklahoma City, Carol was able to further her education, earning her BS degree as a Registered Nurse. Thus, began pursuit of her lifelong passion of helping others. She served as both a nurse and administrator in hospitals and home healthcare settings in Oklahoma City, Midland and Odessa, Denton and Gainesville. She sought and earned an MS degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner from TWU in 2006 that further enhanced her ability to help others. She worked with various physicians’ practices, opened her own practice and later worked at the Michelin Family Health Center in Ardmore associated with the Michelin Tire Plant. It was there in 2017 that an on-the-job injury and its lingering aftereffects forced her early retirement. Although no longer able to practice, it never stopped her helping anyone in any way she could.

In addition to her caregiver skills, Carol was an excellent cook. She became the designated turkey and dressing maker for all family holiday meals and reunions. A craft (with no recipe) she learned at the elbow of her Grandmother Scivally.

Carol loved to travel to new places and each year excitedly anticipated upcoming trips she had planned. She made sure her family was well-traveled. Trips included Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Europe and the Mediterranean coast. However, her most favorite destination was Israel, which she visited three times.

Her love and desire to take care of people was equaled only by her love for animals. There was never a time in her household when there was not a cat or a dog or multiples of each. Horses, goats, and most recently, chickens were among her animal friends. (Snakes were never on that list.) Carol is greatly loved, fondly remembered, and will be truly missed by so many friends that she knew and loved so well.

Carol was predeceased by her father Thurman Scivally and sister Janet Copeland.

Those surviving to cherish her memory are: husband James; mother Doris Ann Scivally of Gainesville, TX; daughter Lezli Braswell (Anthony) of Flower Mound, TX; daughter Jamie Watson (Kenneth) of Whitesboro, TX; brother Dale Scivally (Jan) of Marietta, OK; sister Sandy Carpenter (Craig) of Lindsay, TX; sister Suzy Scivally of Lewisville, TX; brother-in-law Burney Herman (Charlotte) of Stamford, TX; uncle H.L. “Dutch” Langston (Ann) of Thackerville, OK; uncle Don Scivally (Linda) of Thackerville, OK; aunt Barbara Hunt of Eagle Point, OR; grandchildren: Carly Watson, Ainsley Braswell, Sam Braswell, Anna Watson, Charlie Braswell, and Gabe Watson; and bonus daughters Karen Miles (Keith) of Lone Grove, OK and Linda Vo (Peter) of Gainesville, TX.
