Charlie Hurst

March 15, 1963 — July 19, 2025

Gainesville, Texas

Charles “Charlie” Wayne Hurst, beloved father, brother, Papa, and uncle, drew his last breath on July 19, 2025. A loyal Cowboys fan, he died peacefully with his loving family by his side, still hoping that one day the Cowboys will again make it to the Super Bowl.

Charlie was born March 15, 1963, to Donald Ray Hurst and Judith Ann Hickey in Wichita Falls, TX. He grew up in Oklahoma and Texas before making his home in Gainesville, Texas. He loved his four beautiful children, 3 grandchildren, and was also a very devoted Fur Daddy to his three dogs, Leia, Luke, and Tina. Charlie graduated from Putnam City North High School in Oklahoma City, OK. He also wrestled throughout his younger years with his brothers. He earned a degree in Engineering and holds electronic certifications. Charlie worked various jobs throughout the years. From Engineer to assembly to quality control. He owned his own business, Hurst Comptech, repairing and building computers, and was an Engineer at Peterbilt in Denton, TX.

Charlie loved God and his family very much and fought hard to be here for all of them. He was the most passionate sports fan ever. He loved his Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, and Texas Rangers, and you could always catch him sporting a cap from those teams if he wasn’t sporting his “Crocodile Get Er Dundee Hat”. He was a jokester and would love to spit “spitwads,” which apparently is a skill his mother taught him. He loved playing corn hole with his family at family gatherings and looked for every opportunity to throw in the “Hurst” laugh anywhere he could.

Charlie acquired a love for thrifting. He loved teaching his niece, “Maddycakes” all the “ins and outs” of a good deal if they weren’t making their Wally World trips or riding in his truck listening to music. Charlie would always call himself “Superman” and would tell his kids when they were growing up that he was strong and invincible like Superman. He was a very strong man and proved that while fighting to stay with his family here on earth. Family was everything to Charlie, and he would always help in any way he could. He also had a love for cooking and was famous for his Enchiladas and Chili.

Charlie is survived by his family, Children: Anthony & Wife Crystal Hurst of Godley, TX; Brandi Hurst of Nacogdoches, TX; Brandon & Wife Lindsey Hurst of Ponder, TX; and Delanie Hurst of Denton, TX, as well as his 3 grandchildren: Vivian and Evelyn of Godley, TX and Owen of Ponder, TX. Brothers and Sister: Steven Hurst & Wife Jeannie of Whitesboro, TX; Scott & Roxanne Hurst of San Antonio, TX; and Kelly (Hurst) Cain of Gainesville, TX; 14 nieces and nephews and 19 great nieces and nephews.

Charlie was preceded in death by his partner Maria Torres; father, Donald Hurst; and mother Judith Hurst; brother, Michael Hurst; grandparents, Archie and Noby Hurst; and grandmother Bennie Holt; several aunts and uncles, and nephew.
