Charles Edward Schumacher, known by many as “Chuck”, age 62, resident of Lindsay, TX, passed away February 7, 2026 at his home surrounded by family following a long battle with cancer.
Chuck was born February 22, 1963 in Gainesville, TX. He attended school at St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Gainesville High School in 1981. While in school, he participated in FFA and 4-H where he enjoyed showing animals. Chuck attended West Texas State University before returning to Cooke County.
Mr. Schumacher married Alice Fuhrmann on October 10, 1987 at St. Peter’s Church in Lindsay. He began working for S&W Tractor, contributing over 15 years as a mechanic. His most memorable job began with Pettit Machinery, now United Ag and Turf, in Gainesville. Starting as the service manager, Mr. Schumacher transitioned into a successful parts salesman over 25+ years, receiving multiple “Best of the Best” awards and helping many clients and friends along the way. Without too much spare time for hobbies, Mr. Schumacher also raised cattle and farmed. He loved playing cards and checkers with his children and giving tractor rides and reading books to his grandchildren. He also enjoyed visiting the casino occasionally and was known for his ability to fix anything. Mr. Schumacher was a devoted member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lindsay.
Predeceased by: father Richard Schumacher; parents-in-law Joe and Marie Fuhrmann; brothers-in-law Bill Potts and Norbert Fuhrmann; sister-in-law Jane Otto; great-nephew Brayden Schumacher; and nephew-in-law Travis Chester.
Survived by: wife of 38 years, Alice Schumacher; son Jason Schumacher (Toria); daughter Kimberly Reiter (Kenny); grandchildren: Luke Reiter, C.J. Reiter, Colby Reiter, Landon Reiter, Zane Reiter, and Olivia Jo Schumacher; mother Florence Haverkamp Schumacher; siblings: Clarice Smouse (Cliff), Larry Schumacher (Cynthia), Barbara Bezner (Skipper), Peggy Potts, John Schumacher (Vikki), Rudy Schumacher (JoAnn), Tim Schumacher (Linda), Gene Schumacher (Susan), Donna Hadley (Randy), Hank Schumacher (Tracy), Kevin Schumacher (Dee Ann), Mark Schumacher (Paula), and Janie Cartmell (Mike); siblings-in-law: Rita Lusk, Paul Fuhrmann (Amelia), Eddie Fuhrmann, Michael Otto, Andy Fuhrmann, Pete Fuhrmann (Marion), Albert Fuhrmann (Lana), Leonard Fuhrmann (Tammie), and Lucy Krahl (Damian); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
A Rosary service is scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, 2026, beginning at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11, beginning at 10:00 a.m., at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lindsay, with a committal service following at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Mr. Shumacher’s nephews: Scott Schumacher, Jeff Bezner, Zack Schumacher, Joe Otto, Travis Krahl, Patrick Lusk, William Fuhrmann, and Matthew Fuhrmann.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Catholic Church or Subiaco Academy.
