Genevieve "Genny" L. Koziol

October 24, 1941 — January 29, 2026

Lake Kiowa

Genevieve “Genny” Koziol was born October 24, 1941 in Los Angeles, CA to the late John Joseph Firlit and Virginia Essick Firlit. She grew up in Colorado Springs, CO where she graduated from Colorado Springs High School and Blair Business College. An extremely energetic, capable businesswoman, Genny’s career begun as a medical secretary at the 10th Medical Group, (which operates the Cadet Clinic at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs) included high level administrative positions in Dallas, TX at The Drawing Board and Fast-Tax. By 1988 she was Human Resource Manager at Lyco Energy Co.

It was in Dallas where Genny met the love of her life, William “Bill” Koziol at the singles group at St. Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church. Bill was a talented up-and-coming project manager with a construction company specializing in the design, engineering and construction of medical and office buildings. They were married at St. Michaels August 5, 1977. Together they flourished.

In 1982, Genny and Bill moved into their new home, which Bill designed and for which he acted as general contractor. In 1984, they became partners in Brentwood Development Corp. In 1993 they purchased a house in Lake Kiowa and began enjoying weekends and holidays there. Bill kept remodeling and adding on to the house and they moved full-time to Lake Kiowa in 1998. Later they would own and operate William George Homes. Bill designed or remodeled over 25 homes in Lake Kiowa while Genny often handled the myriad of in-office complexities of the business.

Bill passed peacefully at home July 4, 2019. After bravely battling a virulent antibiotic-resistant infection for several years, Genny likewise passed away gently from the house Bill built for her int the Lord’s House.

“Let your heart not be troubled; Believe in God, Believe also in me. In my Father’s House are many rooms.” John 14: 1-2

Genny is survived by her sister Tanya Firlit; her aunt Dolores Firlit Rowlands; cousins Debra Rowlands Palumbo (Richard) and Keith Rowlands (Tammy) and their families. She is also survived by her late sister Jeannine “Bonnie” Enos’ husband Howard Enos; the families of Bonnie and Howard’s sons; the families of her late sister Carolyn Knapp’s children; as well as her sister-in-law Cindy Koziol. We are forever grateful for the exceptional caregivers the Lord blessed us with these last few years.

Genny, vibrant and vivacious, was eager to contribute to her church in Dallas where she served on Altar Guild and the Good Shepherd Program. In October 1981, she contributed her artistic and organizational skills to the “Parish Party” – a fundraiser which included two nights of dinners for over 300 people each night (dinners that were cooked entirely by Bill and one other lady) and a silent auction. Genny and Bill contributed a dinner for eight at their house. These events were so popular they became annual events.

After moving to Lake Kiowa Genny was involved at St. Paul’s. She was asked to set up a Good Shepherd Program, and was active in Vestry, Bible study, and Daughters of the King. She loved sharing the Word – often gifting devotionals such as Forward Day by Day and All God’s Creatures, as well as inspiring books and even her own original needlepoint pillows and framed wall art.

Genny was also a contributor to her community. While still in Dallas she served as the Easter Seal Guild secretary and showcase chairman for their Art About Town fundraiser. In Lake Kiowa, she was active with Kiowa Woman’s Club where she served a term as president, particularly enjoying helping put on their annual fashion shows and Dining Divas. She was a member of Woman’s Golf Association and the Kiwanis of Lake Kiowa. One of her favorite Kiwanis projects that supported student achievement in the Callisburg ISD was “Genius Hour”, she would go and read to the littlest students. At the end of the school year each participating child received a book of their very own!

Genny also enjoyed theater arts and participated at Butterfield. She had a very generous and loving heart. She was adept at finding pretty and/or silly gifts and cards to inspire, encourage, and lift up our spirits. She never missed a birthday, anniversary, or holiday. She always delighted in decorating and entertaining in her home as long as Bill did the cooking. Most of all she gave us love and laughter.
