Dennis Eugene Bomar was born August 17, 1925 in Woodbine, Texas. He was the son of J.D. and Ann Bomar, and the brother of Clyde Bomar. He passed away peacefully in his home on December 16, 2025, at the age of 100.
He married Mabel Prestage on June 5, 1943 at Custer City Baptist Church. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1958 at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church in Woodbine, Texas. He also served as a Deacon at Grand Avenue Baptist Church and First Baptist Church, where he was a member until his passing. Gene, as he was known to his friends, served his country in World War II as a member of the U.S. Navy. In that role he served as an aviation ordnanceman.
He was the third person to be hired by National Supply when they first opened their plant in Gainesville. He retired from National Supply on July 1, 1982.
After the death of his first wife Mabel, he married Ann Hargrove in 1984. Ann preceded him in death in 1992.
Throughout the years he enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling. He was an active member of the Stanford House, where he served on the Advisory Board for 15 years.
Gene is survived by his three daughters and their husbands: Elaine and Louis White, Donna and Michael Martin, Kandy and Jeff Burkhart. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and his special friend and companion Theresa Stevens.
The pallbearers will be all of his grandchildren and their spouses.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, at First Baptist Church, Gainesville. A committal service with military honors will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Gainesville. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Stanford House, 401 W. Garnett, Gainesville Texas.
