Donald (Don, Donnie, Dad, Poppy) Sabec was born August 17,1935 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania to Joseph Sabec and Frances Bate Sabec who moved their family from Slovenia. He is survived by his wife, Janice Rae Sabec, and two daughters, Denise Henzler and husband David, Susan Thomas and husband Ron, and granddaughters Natalie and Nicole Thomas. Don was predeceased in death by his parents, Joseph and Frances as well as brother, Edwin Sabec, and sister, Nada Sabec Yoder.

Don was raised in Strabane, Pennsylvania and joined the Air Force following his high school graduation. He was eventually stationed in Fort Worth, Texas where he was introduced to a cute redhead that became the love of his life for 64 years. They wed and started their family in Fort Worth.

The family moved to Conroe, Texas in 1973 where they lived and Don worked for 27 years. After retiring in 2000 he and Jan moved to Lake Kiowa, Texas to be closer to their daughters and their families.

Don enjoyed gambling and spent most Mondays at the Winstar Casino playing the slots. He was usually successful! Gardening was another passion - he always had peppers and tomatoes growing.

Don said his family was his pride and joy. He was proud of his daughters, their spouses and enjoyed watching his granddaughters grow up. He and Jan made every dance recital, birthday party and graduations. He was extremely proud to know they were successful in college and obtained their degrees; Natalie from University of Missouri, and Nicole from University of Oklahoma.

Don passed after a strong fight on December 21, 2020.

The family will hold a private service at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery under the direction of the Geo. JU. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth or the MDS Foundation.
