Dorothy Augusta Becker Mitchell

Dorothy Augusta Becker Mitchell died on January 14, 2026 at the age of 100.

Dorothy was born on a farm in St. Joe, Iowa on September 25, 1925. At an early age she became a Texan, living in Lindsay and Gainesville her adult life but she always enjoyed spending time with her Iowa relatives when she got the chance.

In 1942 Dorothy married Kenneth H. Mitchell. Later Kenneth owned and operated the second generation business of Mitchell Air Conditioning at 303 South Chestnut Street. Located in the opposite end of the building was Dorothy's Fashionette Beauty Salon which Dorothy owned and operated for 25 years until she retired.

Survivors include granddaughter Dr. Marilyn Mitchell, grandson David Fuhrmann and wife Alisha, granddaughter Brandi Shell and husband Cody, along with many other great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nephew Bill swan and wife Heather, nephew Bob Swan and wife Barbara, and niece Janice O' Conner and husband John all of California and niece Cheryl and husband Rod of Washington and many cousins in Texas and Iowa.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Mitchell Sr., her son Kenneth H. Mitchell Jr., her parents Carl and Clara Gimple, her father Hubert Becker, her grandson Charles Mitchell and her sister Mildred Becker Swan.

A Rosary and visitation for Mrs. Mitchell will take place on Sunday, January 18, 2026 beginning at 6:00 PM at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville, Texas. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Gainesville on Monday, January 19, 2026 at 10:30 AM with Eucharistic Minister of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Father John Pacheco officiating the service. Mrs. Mitchell will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery. Services will be under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
