Longtime Gainesville resident, Evelyn Smith, passed away on July 25, 2020 in Denton. She was born on June 18, 1927 in Electra, Texas to Virgil and Gertrude Taylor. She married Walter Lee "Smitty" Smith on March 14, 1946 in Gainesville.
Evelyn was a long-time member of the First Assembly of God Church where she faithfully served as church secretary and Sunday School Teacher. In later years she became a member of Temple Baptist Church.
She had a full and adventurous life traveling to numerous countries and all fifty states. Evelyn served as a cub scout den mother, a Gainesville Leopard band booster, and a member of the Denton Orchid Society. She loved to play 42 and SHOP.
Evelyn is survived by her three sons, Stanley, Kenny and wife Jayleane, and Steve and wife Shirli. Six grandsons Jeff and wife Kelly, Donnie and wife Kim, David and wife Michelle, Howard and wife Trista, Michael and wife Amy, and Steven Smith. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband "Smitty".
Due to compromised health concerns in the Smith family, the interment services are limited to immediate family only. Guests are welcome to view and sign the registry for Evelyn at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, where she will lie in state July 28, 2020 - July 29, 2020.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church or the Stanford House.
