Galene Linda Morris, 75, of Gainesville, went to be with her Lord on November 19, 2025.
Galene was born April 26, 1950 in Quanah, TX to Harold J. and Mabel Zelms. She attended grade school at St. Paul Lutheran School through eighth grade. She attended public high school in Ft. Dodge, IA. In the middle of her senior year, the family moved to Vernon, TX, where she finished high school. Galene received diplomas from both high schools. She went to Texas Tech University where she earned a bachelor’s degree with a major in education and a minor in music. She was a talented pianist
On December 30, 1971, she married the love of her life, John H. Morris, after a whirlwind courtship. They were married until her death. They moved to Gainesville in 1981. Galene taught school for almost 30 years, with 25 years being third grade in Gainesville ISD, until her retirement in 2006.
In retirement, Mrs. Morris was a CASA volunteer for many years. In 2013 she was nominated as CASA of the year in Texas for her work with one family. She was chosen for the Women of Faith in Service Award in 2016 by the Gainesville organization.
Mrs. Morris was a dedicated member of Faith Lutheran Church in Gainesville where she held numerous offices and served on committees. She was a volunteer and co-manager of Helping Hands Thrift Store, a mission outreach of her church.
Mrs. Morris was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Darryl and Jeff. She is survived by her husband, daughter Julie Nellis (Bobby), daughter Lauren Pacheco (Paul), grandchildren Kate and Will Nellis, sister-in-law Carol Zelms, along with nieces Kari Zelms and Jennfier Crawford. She also leaves behind her beloved Australian Shepherd, Beau.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 24, at Faith Lutheran Church, Gainesville. Memorial contributions may be made to CASA or Faith Lutheran Church.
