Gary L. Droll, age 80, of Gainesville, Texas, passed away on November 26, 2025.
Services
Rosary, followed by visitation, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Monday, December 8, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville, TX. A Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Muenster, TX, will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9. Mr. Droll will be laid to rest next to his wife and parents following a committal service at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Rowena, TX, scheduled for Wednesday, December 10, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
History
Gary was born on September 19, 1945 in San Angelo, Texas to Henry Emil Droll and Dorine Halamicek Droll. He lived with his parents and sister in Rowena, Texas until the family moved to Pecos, Texas in 1951. He attended Pecos Elementary, Pecos Junior High, and Pecos High School. In high school Gary was in the choir and band, a member of the National Honor Society, Future Teachers of America, performed in high school musicals, was in the junior play, senior play, and one act play.
Following graduation from high school, Gary attended St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas where he graduated with a B.A., with a major in English, a minor in Latin, and Education. He held a lifetime Texas teacher’s certificate. In 1969, following college graduation, he taught one year at John H. Glenn Junior High School in San Angelo. In 1971 he married Margaret Ukas. Prior to his retirement in 2007, Gary worked as a computer graphics designer. Upon retirement, Gary moved to Kingsland, Texas where he lived until 2010 when he moved to Gainesville.
Family
Gary is survived by nephew, Gus Felderhoff, his wife, Britt, and their daughter, Olivia, of Scottsdale, Arizona; niece, Julie Behr, her husband, Steve, and their children, Jack and Abby, of Coppell, Texas; nephew, James Felderhoff, and his wife, Ashley, of Muenster, Texas; and niece, Vanessa Smith, and her husband, Dennis, of Belding, Michigan.
During his time in Gainesville, Gary was honored to have the kindness of specialfriends, Laveoada Nance (Deceased) formerly of Whitesboro, Texas and Miss Dolly Smith (Deceased) formerly of Gainesville, Texas.
Gary is also survived by his special companion, Buster, a Pineapple Conure Parrot. Buster was instrumental in maintaining and prolonging Gary's life. Enough cannot be said for the love and companionship given to Gary by Buster, a very special gift of one of God's little creatures.
Mr. Droll was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; sister, Loretta Felderhoff, and her husband, August J. Felderhoff; and three infant brothers.
