Gwen Novak

1962 - 2026

Gwen passed peacefully in her home/artist’s studio in Gainesville, Texas, the evening of January 27th, 2026. She was born February 17, 1962, in Berea, Ohio to Frank and Ruth Novak. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank, and is survived by her mother, Ruth; children, Chloe Schultz (Braulio Araujo) and Winston Schultz (Chloe Holsinger); siblings Ruth O’Toole (Marty), Frank (Lisa Dundore), Dan (Camile), Carrie, and Kelly; five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her partner, Donnie Hankins.

In her early years Gwen developed engineering designs for the Perry Nuclear Power Plant as a certified draftsperson. She later owned and operated a restaurant for five years until leaving to pursue her talents as a painter and mixed media artist. She lived for several years in Florida raising her two children, and eventually landed in Texas, where she became involved with Gainesville Area Visual Arts (GAVA), entering shows and taking home various awards. Those who knew Gwen will likely not forget this strong, vivacious and talented artist.

Gwen’s wishes were to be cremated. In lieu of a memorial service, a private celebration of her life will be held in Ohio on her birthday.
