Harold Tutt, 94, of Gainesville, Texas, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on April 26, 2021. He passed away in Coppell, Texas, where he had been living with his daughter for the past year.
Harold was born on July 2, 1926, to Horace and Ona Tutt in Gainesville, of which he was a lifelong resident. He met Jean Howell Stewart while attending Gainesville High School and they married on Aug. 29, 1948. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary shortly before Jean’s passing in April 2020.
A man of faith, Harold accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age and had been a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gainesville for more than 70 years, and where he also had served as an elder. Jean and Harold’s wedding was the first to take place in the church’s chapel, which opened in 1948 at its current location at the corner of Scott and Denton streets.
He worked many years for Mrs. Baird’s Bakery and later for Brown’s Transportation Service where he transported railroad workers throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.
Harold had a quiet strength and gentle nature. He had a sharp mind and was a wonderful storyteller with a beloved sense of humor. Just hours before his passing he was still talking and laughing with family members and his hospice nurses about fond memories. He will be greatly missed but we take comfort in the hope of Heaven, knowing we will see him again one day.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. He is survived by a sister, Ethelda Robertson of Nashville, Tennessee; son Rick Tutt and wife Donna of Conroe, Texas; son Steve Tutt and wife Angie of Raton Pass, New Mexico; and daughter Lea Ann Tutt-Woodard of Coppell, Texas. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Sunshine Tutt of Topanga, California; Josh Garner and wife Misty of Conroe; and Katie Woodard of Denton, Texas, as well as two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
