Herbert Henry Schmidlkofer

Herbert Henry Schmidlkofer, 91 of Lindsay, passed away on January 23, 2026 in Gainesville, Texas. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm on Friday, January 30, 2026 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral home with visitation to follow. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lindsay, Texas with Fr. John Martin officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Herbert’s six grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Herbert was born on August 30, 1934 to J.C. and Catherine Schmidlkofer in Cooke County and attended school in Lindsay, Texas. He married Rachel Voth on November 26, 1955 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lindsay, Texas. They lived on the family farm north west of Lindsay and had five children; Walter, Kathleen, Darlene, Weldon, and Charlene.

Herbert was a farmer and rancher at heart. He also worked at Weber Aircraft and retired in 2000 after 32 years of service. After retiring from Weber and farming, he spent most days with his brother, Leroy, at the Schmidlkofer farm in the “Man Shed” working on tractors and helping Leroy with his land and cattle. If he wasn’t with Leroy, he was driving around in his mule or down at the “Creek” picking up timber and brush and visiting his favorite cow. He was also a familiar face at the Smokehouse in Lindsay where he visited with friends and neighbors.

Herbert is survived by his son Walter Schmidlkofer; son-in-law Patrick Hacker; daughter Darlene Williams and husband Jim; son Weldon Schmidlkofer and wife Doris; daughter Charlene Stephens and husband Barry. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jonathan Schmidlkofer, Bradley Schmidlkofer, Melissa Trammell, Crystal Clark and husband Chancey, William Hacker and wife Leah, Lindsey Andersen and husband Dan, Clint Williams and wife Amanda, Derek Schmidlkofer and wife Shae, and Cody Donnelly and wife Amanda. Great-grandchildren include: Gage Schmidlkofer and wife Nnykkia, Kaleb Schmidlkofer and wife Taylor, Elena Schmidlkofer, Alexis Williford and husband Isaac, Austin Trammell, Azlynn Trammell, Tayte and Gracie Hacker, Audrey, Avery, and Everett Andersen, Cora, Cohen, and Quinn Williams, and Rylee Donnelly; great-great-grandchildren include: Daniel Faulkner, Azoriah Williford, Harper Schmidlkofer and River Schmidlkofer.

Herbert is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Leroy and Rosina Schmidlkofer; and sister-in-law Viola Schmidlkofer; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Catherine Schmidlkofer; father and mother-in-law Tony and Geraldine Voth Haverkamp; daughter Kathy Hacker; grandson Dain Schmidlkofer; siblings: Francis Schmidlkofer, George Schmidlkofer and wife Louise, Marie Fuhrmann and husband Joe, Joe Schmidlkofer, Rosalie Reiter and husband Gerald, and several nieces and nephews.
