Janice Diana Matthews, 76, of Gainesville, Texas, passed away on June 28, 2025 after a long, hard-fought battle.
Diana was born on November 7, 1948, to Joe Wallace and Ima Delle Barthold. Diana grew up in Era, Texas, where she built a life filled with love and resilience.
Diana is survived by her son, Butch, and his wife, Hollie Matthews; her daughter, Misty, and her husband, Floyd Pittman; her beloved grandchildren, Payton and her husband, Grant Briney, Lauren Pittman, Bret Pittman, Mackenzie Pittman, and other step-grandchildren; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Whylie and Yancey Briney, Ryder Gorton, Laylah Marshall, along with several step-great-grandchildren.
Diana also leaves behind her siblings and their spouses: Debra and her husband, Mike Beavers; Janie and her husband, Richard Hughes; Sonny and his wife, Ferne Barthold; her sister-in-law, Peggy Matthews; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who loved her dearly.
Diana was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Wallace and Ima Delle Barthold; her loving husband, Weldon Matthews; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Carol Matthews; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Matthews; and her brother-in-law, Donnie Matthews.
Diana’s life was one of unwavering strength, boundless love, and a heart always ready to help others. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Reed Cemetery in Myra. A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
