Jay Alton Cash of Gainesville, TX passed away on April 24, 2021 in Denton, TX after a short and brutal battle with cancer.
He was born on April 16, 1943 in Wichita Falls, TX to J.W. & Lorene (Moore) Cash. Shortly after, the family moved to Gainesville where he grew up and then joined the navy at a young age. After leaving the navy, he lived on the west coast for many years. He also lived for a while in Colorado. Jay made a living working in the trucking industry, first as a driver and then, after moving back to Gainesville, establishing his own big rig polishing business until he retired.
Jay lived life on his own terms and he faced death the same way. He was not afraid of death because he knew Jesus was waiting for him. But when given a prognosis of an incredibly small amount of time left, he was determined to see his next birthday and spend a few more days with his family. And so, he did.
Jay is survived by sisters Carol Fry and husband Claud of Gainesville and Julie Porter and husband Hugh of Argyle. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and a great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his son William Calvin (Billy) Cash, parents J. W. and Lorene Cash and brother Ronald Lee Cash.
A private graveside service was held at Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville.
