Jennie Helsley, age 96, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026. She was born on July 5, 1929, to Berna Helsley and Eunice Campbell.
Jennie was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose kindness, generosity, and unwavering love touched the lives of all who knew her.
She dedicated many years of service as a psych ward clerk at St. John Hospital, where she was known for her compassion and commitment to helping others.
Jennie found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid gardener who delighted in nurturing flowers and plants, and she loved spending quiet moments bird watching. She also enjoyed traveling and created lasting memories by taking each of her grandchildren on a special trip of their choosing, a gift they will cherish forever.
Known lovingly as “Mamaw Jennie” to her grandchildren, she treasured her family above all else. A talented cake decorator, Jennie lovingly made each of her daughters’ wedding cakes, a testament to her creativity and devotion. Her warmth, generosity, and loving spirit will be remembered for generations.
Jennie is survived by her daughter, Sandy Landers, and her grandchildren, Greg Landers, Kirsten Landers, and Kara Allen.
She is also survived by her daughter, Connie Chisum, and husband Kenneth Chisum; grandchildren Brian Chisum and wife Kara, Ben Chisum, and Brock Chisum and wife Nicole.
She is further survived by grandchildren Justin Hughes and wife Lauren, Josh Hughes and wife Syndee, Jordan Hughes and wife Amanda, and Jasmin Gherke and husband Dusty.
Jennie was blessed with 21 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
She is also survived by her sister, Bernadette Bledsoe, and her brother, Bruce Helsley.
Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, Eunice Campbell and Berna Helsley, and stepmother Marie Helsley; her daughter, Julie Hughes; sons-in-law Roger Hughes and David Landers; sister Juanda Prelle; brother A.J. Helsley; and sister Eunice Kopp.
A funeral service celebrating Jennie’s life will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at George J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations made to the Living Word Ministries, PO Box 1216, Gainesville, Texas 76241.
Jennie leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, family, and treasured memories. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
