Jerry Carl Anderson, beloved husband, father, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, at the age of 86. Born in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, on December 22, 1938, Jerry was raised on a farm, where he developed a strong work ethic and a lifelong love of learning—qualities that would define his life and career.
A graduate of Madill High School, Jerry pursued higher education in his own unique style, attending Murray State College, East Central University, and several other institutions to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and later a Master’s degree. His passion for education led him to begin his teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Colorado, where he taught grades one through eight for two memorable years—years that became the source of many cherished stories (that he loved to share).
In 1961, Jerry and his wife, Latrica Fern Harbert—whom he married on December 24, 1959—moved to California. There, he dedicated 39 years to teaching high school mathematics, retiring in July 2000. He was especially proud of reintroducing the unit circle as a tool for learning trigonometry.
After retirement, Jerry and Latrica fulfilled a dream by moving to Colorado and building their own home. His passion for design and construction led to a unique and beautiful home for them (and, to the relief of many, not a geodesic dome). For 16 years, they enjoyed life in the home they built, where Jerry could often be found on his trusty tractor, “Johnny, moving dirt, snow, or anything else that gave him an excuse to work with his mechanical sidekick.
In 2016, they relocated to Lake Kiowa, Texas, for health reasons, where he was able to enjoy living near water.
Boating was one of Jerry’s greatest joys. He transformed a bare boat hull into the family’s beloved craft and shared his love of the water with countless friends and relatives. Whether it was a day trip to the lake or a week-long camping and boating adventure, Jerry made sure everyone had a good time—often teaching them to water ski, a skill he passed on to more than 100 people.
Jerry also loved to travel, explore new places, and take cruises. His adventurous spirit, generous heart, and unwavering dedication to those he loved made the world a better place.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Latrica; their two children, Carl (Stephanie)and Anita (John); their grandchildren, A.J., Tim, Chris, and Sara; and a legacy of kindness, craftsmanship, and curiosity that will live on in all who knew him.
Jerry Carl Anderson will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to inspire and uplift those fortunate enough to have shared in his remarkable life.
