John K. Hook, age 92, passed away peacefully Monday, May 11th, 2026 at Pecan Tree Rehab and Healthcare Center in Gainesville, Texas.
He was born November 11th, 1933, in Berwick, Illinois, a son of the late James Milton Hook and Carrie Francis Meador Hook.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was an experienced soldier selected to train recruits in the role of a Drill Sergeant. After an Honorable Discharge from the military, John went on to be an assembler at the Magic Chef factory in Galesburg, Illinois, where he retired in 1991. Once retired, John moved to Woodbine, Texas, with his family. John was an avid train enthusiast and he enjoyed feeding and watching hummingbirds, ducks and Eastern Bluebirds. He was an avid collector of many unique items including Abington Pottery, Jim Beam Decanters, and vintage glassware.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters.
John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Bonita Sergeant Hook of Woodbine, Texas; son Erick Hook of Nocona, Texas; grandson Dustin Hook of Gainesville, Texas; granddaughter Karli Hook of Whitesboro, Texas; granddaughter Kendra Hook of Nocona, Texas; two great-granddaughters Caroline and Kassidi Lopez of Whitesboro, Texas; brother David Hook; sister Donna gray.
No services are planned at this time following the cremation. In lieu of flowers, John would like any donations to be sent to the Emery Rail Heritage Trust, North American Railway Foundation, or National Audubon Society.
