Joyce “Honey” Tucker Rigler was born to John Lloyd Tucker, Sr. and Dora Leona Epps on August 31, 1931. She passed away peacefully on January 17, 2021 surrounded by her loving family at her home.
Mrs. Rigler was employed as the City Secretary and Tax Collector Assessor for the City of Muenster, Texas from 1959-1963. She began work at the Texas Youth Commission in Gainesville, Texas in 1963 as school secretary, became an economics and business teacher, then director of social services. From 1974-1987, Mrs. Rigler served as Assistant Superintendent. She holds a Texas Teaching Certificate and received her bachelor degree in business and economics. She earned her Master’s degree in psychology and guidance & counseling in 1973 from Texas Woman’s University.
Mrs. Rigler was very involved in various aspects as a devoted member of First United Methodist Church, the Cooke County Retired School Personnel and North Central Texas College.
Honey married Lewis C. Rigler on February 23, 1963 in Kilgore, Texas. They celebrated 46 years of marriage until his death in 2009. Lewis adored Honey and he was the love of her life. Throughout their loving marriage they would send letters to each other expressing their deep love and admiration for each other. From Lewis: “On our 27th anniversary today 2-23-90, I want you to know of my love & admiration for you. I want you to know it today & I believe you have known for all of our married life - your love and kindness to me is eternal.” Our family finds comfort in that they are now reunited.
She is survived by her five daughters & spouses Lynda & Jim Hacker, Charlotte and Mel Barnes, Patti & Rick Mercer, Diane Rigler, Jan & Mark Brazelton and three sons and spouses Steve & Connie Rigler, Mike and Joanna Rigler, and E.T. & Judyth Rigler. She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and thirty-two great grandchildren whom she adored.
Mrs. Rigler was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis, her parents John & Leona Tucker, Sr., her brother Virgil Lloyd Tucker, sister Nellie Marie Tucker-Lambert, and brother John Lloyd Tucker, Jr.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Honey’s caregivers: Nancy, Debra, Megan, and Yesena for their tireless support and love. We appreciate you more than you know.
A public visitation will be held at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 6:00-7:00pm. Funeral services will be attended by family only but will be streamed live and are set for 11:00am on Friday, January 22, 2021 at First United Methodist Church in Gainesville with Pastor Adam Spore officiating. You can find the live stream on the church’s Facebook page. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons & great-grandsons: Michael Mercer, Jacob Blount, Jimmy Hacker, Trenton Blount, Cody Brazelton, Bryce Hacker, Devon Hacker and Jaden Walterscheid.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church.
