Kenneth Ray Barton

Kenneth Ray Barton, born February 5, 1937, in his family home in Montague County, entered his eternal home with his Lord and Savior on January 16, 2026, at the age of 88.

Kenneth was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who found great joy in the simple and meaningful things God placed before him each day. He and his beloved wife, Barbara, were high school sweethearts and shared 66 wonderful years of marriage building a life centered on family, hard work, and making memories together. They made their home in Bedford, Texas, where they lived for 48 years, forming lasting friendships.

Kenneth led a life of diligence and integrity. For many years, he worked as a paint contractor before later serving as a property manager. He was personable and trustworthy; known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and steadfast commitment to doing things the right way.

He was a deeply supportive and proud father through his steady presence and encouragement. Kenneth proudly supported Kyle and took great pride in watching him serve his community as a police officer. He was just as devoted to supporting Cherie as an educator in HEB ISD. No matter the endeavor, Kenneth was always present—cheering from the sidelines, offering quiet encouragement, and celebrating their successes with genuine pride.

Kenneth had a deep appreciation for nature and loved spending time outdoors. He especially enjoyed planting flowers, creating beautiful gardens, bird watching, and taking in the mountain scenery of Colorado. In his younger years, he loved camping, hunting, and fishing. Travel remained a lifelong joy—he and Barbara visited 103 bed and breakfasts over the years, always eager for the next adventure or weekend getaway.

Sports were one of Kenneth’s great joys. He was a lifelong fan of the Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, and Texas Rangers, and in his own youth he played high school baseball as an outfielder. Some of his proudest and happiest days were spent watching his grandkids—Bryce and Blake on the baseball field and Allison on the volleyball court.

Kenneth treasured fellowship with long-time friends and family. In the late 60s, he and Barbara built a cabin at Moss Lake Estates, which became a beloved gathering place. The family spent countless weekends there over the years and shared many special holidays and Christmases together, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Barton; his children, Kyle Barton and daughter-in-law Shan Shan, and Cherie Gibson and son-in-law Paul; his grandsons, Bryce Gibson and his wife Amber, Blake Gibson and his wife Annie, and granddaughter Allison Barton; his great-grandchildren, Nathan and Silas Gibson; and his brother Charles Barton and his wife Dee. Those who knew him best will forever cherish his warmth, his joyful laugh, and the countless stories he loved to tell. While we grieve his passing, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life and find peace in knowing Kenneth is now fully healed, restored, and rejoicing in the presence of his Savior.

He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Zona Barton, and baby daughter Lisa Ann Barton.
