SSgt. Lawrence A. Durnberger, USA, Ret., age 74, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2022 in Dallas.
Larry was born January 17, 1948 in Chanute, KS. He completed two tours in Vietnam and was stationed at various bases around the world during his 20-year career in the U.S. Army. Mr. Durnberger also had 20 years of employment with the State of Texas. Mr. Durnberger met Paula Olson at Fort Rucker, AL and the couple married on September 1, 1973 in Gainesville. He was a member of Gainesville Masonic Lodge No. 210 and enjoyed fishing and playing video games. Most of all, Mr. Durnberger treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Mr. Durnberger was preceded in death by: parents, William A. and Ella M. (Dawson) Durnberger; son, Aaron Lee Durnberger; son, Andrew Paul Durnberger; and grandson, Aaron Paul.
Survivors include: wife, Paula Durnberger of Gainesville; daughter, Tina Durnberger of Gainesville; daughter, Lori Durnberger Bakke and husband, Luke of Denton; granddaughter, Elizabeth; great-granddaughter, Aleksondria; sister, Wiletta Kelling and husband, George of Gainesville; nephew, Robert Kelling; niece, Antje Webernick and husband, Clayton; brother-in-law, Steven Zander and wife, Shelly of Green Bay, WI; and brother, Cody Durnberger and family.
A memorial visitation is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. At a later date, Mr. Durnberger’s remains will be inurned at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
