Margaret Kay (Balthrop) Maughan, known by many as “Margie”, passed away May 19, 2026, in Denison, TX, at the age of 67.
Margie was born June 11, 1958 in Gainesville, TX. She attended schools in Gainesville and Era. Margie had several jobs that tied into her lifelong passions. At different times, she worked at the sewing factory in Muenster, Fischer’s in Muenster, and the Gainesville Zoo. Margie loved sewing and crocheting, and she passionately cared for her dogs, especially her dog, Fred. She loved spending time outdoors, whether it was fishing, camping, gardening, or hunting for rocks and arrowheads. Margie also enjoyed cooking and baking, a gift she often shared with her biggest love of all, her family, particularly her children and grandchildren.
Predeceased by: mother Easter (Reid) McKinney; father James Balthrop; stepmother Billie Balthrop; and brother-in-law James Barrett.
Survived by: daughter Carrie Knabe of Frisco; daughter Melissa Covington of Saint Jo; daughter Rachel Payne (Nick) of Sherman; grandchildren: Meredith Knabe, Bren Knabe, Zayne Knabe, Jessica Britain, and Michelle Britain; great-grandchildren: Kiley McDonald and A.J. Sivoravong; sister Gina Barrett of Myra; brother Jeff Balthrop (Anne) of Forestburg; sister Debbie Moster (Wayne) of Forestburg; and sister Sue Looye of Myra.
A graveside service is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, 2026, beginning at 2:00 p.m., at Rosston Cemetery, Rosston, TX. Arrangements are under the care of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville. Memorial contributions may be made to ASPCA.
