Melvin Alvis McGilvray, 80, of Gainesville, TX, passed away October 22, 2024 in Gainesville.

Melvin was born October 16, 1944 in Gainesville.  He was a lifelong resident of Cooke County.  Melvin worked in the welding and residential construction/maintenance trades.  Mr. McGilvray also served in the U.S. Navy.  He enjoyed watching Westerns and spending time with his family.

Mr. McGilvray was preceded in death by: parents Edgar McGilvray and Hazel (Cantrell) Argo; son Donald Lee McGilvray; son Eric Michael McGilvray; son Michael Shane McGilvray; grandson Brandon Michael McGilvray; brother-in-law Kenneth Cravens; sister-in-law Barbara McGilvray; and sister-in-law Jean McGilvray.

Survivors include: daughter Yulonda Fleeman and husband Tim of Gainesville; daughter Calista Gonzales and husband Alex of Era, TX; daughter Tonia Moore and husband Johnny of Gainesville; son Mitchell McGilvray of Gainesville; son Matthew McGilvray of Gainesville; son Melvin Dillon McGilvray of Gainesville; son Daniel King and wife Maria of Austin, TX; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Lee McGilvray of Gainesville; sister Barbara Cravens of Gainesville; and brother Richard McGilvray of Meridian, MS.

Services are scheduled for Friday, November 15, 2024.  The family will begin receiving friends at 1:00 p.m. at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville.  A memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m.  A committal service will follow at Nelson Grove Cemetery, Woodbine.
