Nancy Kidd Moeller, 72, formerly of Gainesville, earned a pair of wings and a big promotion on September 27, 2020. After a 9-year battle of hide-and-seek with Alzheimer’s Disease, she is now hiding behind the clouds where her memories are restored and protected. Regardless of the memories no longer in sight, she always remembered Jesus, always danced when she heard music and the first taste of an ice-cold Dr. Pepper (“with the good ice”) always made her smile and her eyes light up.
Nancy was born on April 5, 1948 to Virgil and Wanda Kidd, in a Naval hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She graduated from Denton High School in 1966; after living in Oklahoma and Kansas she returned to Denton, Texas and later moved to Gainesville, where she was a member of Temple Baptist Church and a proud Edison Leopard until her retirement.
She is survived by her mother, Wanda Kidd of Bedford; brother and sister-in-law Don and Jimmie Kidd of Hurst; son Jon Moeller and his wife Shontae of Austin; son Jason Moeller and his wife Amanda of Austin; daughter Jill Moeller-Serafine and her husband Dave of Austin; daughter Jessica Ruiz of The Colony; six grandchildren: Estella, Calvin, Lucy, Dominic, Dylan, and Jeff; and multiple nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Virgil Kidd, Jr; grandparents Virgil Kidd, Sr and Ethel Maner Kidd and E.E. Sluder and Fannie Harper Sluder.
Nancy peacefully passed in her oldest daughter’s home in Austin. The memories she takes with her, and those held dear by her family, are more precious and valuable than the collection of Precious Moments and Original Cabbage Patch Dolls she leaves behind.
Memories are defined as mental impressions or recollections. So many friends and family have shared lovely recollections and memories of Nancy with the shining theme being she was a kind person and a great friend (queue Golden Girls theme song here). Her family holds tight to their favorite memories and thoughts of their sweet Daughter/Sis/Momma/Namaw/Grancy. Her mother recalls her being the most beautiful baby with pretty eyes and eyelashes. Her brother Don said in all the years of growing up he can’t recall her not liking anyone and she always saw the good in everyone. Son Jon’s favorite memory was her taking him (and brother, Jason) to a Stevie Ray Vaughn concert in 1986 at the Will Rogers Auditorium in Ft. Worth, The Fabulous Thunderbirds opened that show. Jon and J would later grow up to be band members of The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Son Jason said his favorite memory of his mom would be that no matter what he did to get himself into a mess and no matter how negatively it affected her life, she still responded in a positive way and she always reacted with love; “She was a rare beauty”. Her daughter Jill’s first big memory was after she (Nancy) fell and tore tendons in her ankle she did not cancel the biggest plans of her daughter’s 9-year old life and hobbled up step after step, on crutches, in Kemper Arena in Kansas City, MO so Jill would not miss seeing her first childhood hero, Cyndi Lauper. While Nancy did not let Jill shave her head like Cyndi Lauper in the third grade, she did let her cut and perm her hair in second grade because Jill so desperately wanted to look like Little Orphan Annie. (Photo proof still exists). Her youngest daughter Jessica says the list of memories is so big that she can’t specify just one but a slew of snapchat videos have captured many great times. Jessica’s social media is riddled with such fun! The grandchildren remember a Namaw/Grancy that always laughed and played with them and had “spray butter for pancakes”.
Nancy was a wonderful person that will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. Treasure the memories!
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:30 AM on Friday, October 2, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery, Gainesville, with Dr. Eddie Chenault officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Memorial Contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org, search tribute pages (Nancy Kidd Moeller) on the ‘Donate’ tab OR an Amazon wish-list has been created to donate items to Nancy’s friends at The Heritage at Hunter’s Chase Memory Care Facility. The costs associated with caring for a family member with Alzheimer’s/dementia are enormous and Nancy’s family has created an Amazon wish-list to create care packages for Nancy’s friends in her former Memory Care facility. Email Jill at [email protected] for more information.
