Pete departed his family and friends to meet his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 24, 2020 in Denison, TX.
Pete was born April 6, 1938 in Chattanooga, TN, the eldest child of Earl Thach Shauf and Geraldine Elizabeth (Gerry) Myers Shauf. He married Sandra Sue “Susie” Smith in Ringgold, GA on November 24, 1974. The family moved to Gainesville in 1976. Pete was an early pioneer in the plastics extrusion business, purchasing Petroflex in 1983. He continued his entrepreneurial spirit and innovativeness by adding companies: API, a rotational molding company, and Ultraskiff, a round fishing boat manufacturer, to his resumé.
In 2004, Pete had a kidney transplant that extended his life by 16 years. This life-saving gift was made possible by his donor CD Machac and his gracious parents Clint and Donna. Pete was a faithful follower of The Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. It guided his life and his love of helping others, the number of which can’t be counted. He was a familiar face at the Anchor Club and a sponsor of many individuals. Pete was also the co-founder of My Brothers House, a sober living facility in Muenster, TX.
Pete, a pastor’s kid, had a rich spiritual life filled with daily readings and prayers, and treasured his close personal relationship with God. He was a charter and active member and supporter of Faith Lutheran Church in Gainesville. When it came to hobbies, he did them with PASSION, whether it be sky diving, flying, running, bicycling, sailing, riding horses, and then, motorcycles. Above all else, his greatest passion was being of service to others.
