Rickey George Linn

December 21, 1957 — October 30, 2022

Rickey George Linn was born in Gainesville, Texas, to Jack Linn and Jewell Dean Weaver Linn on December 21, 1957, at the old Gainesville Sanitarium.  Because of complications, the doctor did not expect Rickey to survive at birth, but he did survive and grew up to become a soldier in the army of the Lord. Rickey also became a beloved son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, and friend to many.  Although Rickey never married and had no children of his own, he loved all his family and church-family children, and they flocked to him as if he were the Pied Piper of Hamlin.

Rickey faced many difficulties in life, but he successfully worked to overcome them with grace and humility.  He was a good man who loved other people, children, fishing, and dogs, especially his dachshund Jenny, whom he could no longer care for and found a good replacement parent.  He loved his family and prayed for them daily, including his church family at The Fold on Grand Avenue.  His seven great-nieces, his three great-nephews, and his nine great-great nieces and nephews were an important part of his life, and they all loved playing with Uncle Rick at our family get-togethers as he did with them.  Rickey was a kid at heart for all his life; he loved playing pranks on his friends and family!

Rickey was preceded in Heaven by his parents, Jack and Jewell Dean Linn; grandparents, George Arthur and Elizabeth Sappington Linn; grandparents, Cordis Lee and Annie Underwood Weaver; niece, Elizabeth Ann James; and his sister-in-law, Genie Bingham Linn.  He is survived by his brother, Billy Joe Linn and wife Carol of Hideaway Lake, Texas; and his sister, Rebecca (Becky) LaFlamme of Gainesville, Texas.  Other survivors are nieces, Lee Ann Pool of Fate, Texas, and Melissa Pulte and husband, Chris, of Denton, Texas.

Rickey graduated from Gainesville High School in the class of 1975. He also attended classes at Cooke County Junior College, now North Central Texas College.  His first job was at Tyler and Simpson.  He then worked at several area churches and the Gainesville Outlet Mall as custodian.  His final 23 years were spent as custodian at the Gainesville Civic Center, Gainesville Police Department, and Gainesville Fire Department.  He took pride in his work and treasured the many friends he made there.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, you consider making a donation to either The Fold on Grand Avenue Church or to the Home Hospice of Cooke, Grayson, and Fannin Counties in memory of Rickey George Linn.  He received so much help from both these organizations, and we are so grateful.

The memorial service for Rickey George Linn will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the Fold of Grand Avenue Church; 602 N. Grand Ave; Gainesville, Texas, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Kevin Sandmann officiating.  A short reception will follow
