Roberta "Bobbie" Owen

Roberta Joyce Rankin Owen lost her battle with Alzheimer’s and passed to her heavenly home on Sunday, February 21, 2021, at 12:07 A.M.

Mrs. Owen was born to Robert Rankin Jr. and Verna Howard on December 26, 1942 in Winters, TX.  Her father died in WWII on December 12, 1944.  Her mother met and married Luie Maxel Tharp, who raised her as his own.  They produced two brothers for Bobbie.

Roberta “Bobbie” graduated from Jal, NM High School in 1961 and then graduated from Texas Women’s University in Denton, TX in 1965.  Her career started in 1965 for the State of Texas State School for Boys in Gainesville, where she worked for 30 years.  She was well known all over the State of Texas due to this affiliation.  Bobbie also had a seven-year career at North Central Texas College in Gainesville.

Bobbie met the love of her life in 1966, Chuck Owen, a Gainesville man.  They were married June 6, 1970 in Gainesville, TX.  They were married for 50 ½ years.  Bobbie loved family, children, travel, and visiting with people.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

Bobbie is survived by her husband, Chuck Owen of Gainesville; brother, Doug (Terrie) Tharp of Crowley; brother, Milton (Glena) Tharp of Odessa; one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law; a deceased brother-in-law’s family in Hawaii, and several nieces and nephews.

Bobbie will be cremated and no services are planned.
