Rosa Mendez

Rosa Garcia Mendez, 86, longtime resident of Gainesville, most recently of Whitesboro, passed away July 22, 2025 in Denison.

Rosa was born August 30, 1938 in Gonzalez, TX, the youngest of 10 sisters. She married Jose C. Mendez on February 16, 1964. Mrs. Mendez was the consummate homemaker whose generous spirit benefited all those around her.

Survived by: daughter Maria Yeargan (John) of Whitesboro; daughter Lucia Robledo (Noe) of Gainesville; daughter Rosa M. Mendez (Lazaro) of Gainesville; daughter Josephina Wheeler of Marietta, OK; daughter Consuelo Garcia of Sanger; son Paul Mendez (Sarah) of Gainesville; niece Refugia Dubrule (Alfred); grandchildren: Rafael, Matias Jr., Roberto, Noe Jr., Dolores, Christina, Rodrigo Jr., Amanda, Juanita, Laura, Mari, Jamie, Jose, Cecilia, Carlos Jr., Rebecca, Jorge, Andrew, Diego, Gabriel, Abel, Emalyn, Brynann, and Ava; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Predeceased by: parents Magdaleno and Felicita (Martinez) Garcia; husband of 52 years, Jose C. Mendez; daughter and son-in-law Virginia and Terry Ashby; and her nine sisters.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville. Mrs. Mendez will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery following private services.
